Welsh Premier Women's Football League

The Welsh Premier Women's Football League was formed in 2009 by the Football Association of Wales.

The League kicked off in September 2009 with eight teams in two Regional conferences. The teams played each other twice (home and away) and the winners of each conference then played-off in the Final to determine the inaugural Welsh Premier Women's Football League Champions.

Swansea City Ladies were the winners of the Southern Conference and Caernarfon Town Ladies were the winners of the Northern Conference. The two sides met in Haverfordwest on Sunday 9th May 2010 and Swansea were crowned the inaugural Champions following a 4-0 triumph.

Swansea again won the Final in 2011 beating Caernarfon Town for a second successive season, this time at Llanidloes.

The prize for the Winners, is not only the prestige of being crowned the inaugural Welsh Premier Women's Football League Champions, but also £8,000 in prize money and a place in the UEFA Women's Cup next season, which will be awarded to the League Champions, when in previous years, it's been awarded to the Cup Winners.

History was made in Aberystwyth on the evening of 24th September 2009, when the first ever Welsh Premier Women's Football League match kicked-off. The opening game at Park Avenue saw Aberystwyth Town Ladies beat Llanidloes Town Ladies 2-0 in front of 367 spectators.

The ten current member clubs are as follows;

Southern Conference: Caerphilly Castle Ladies, Newcastle Emlyn Ladies, Swansea City Ladies, Trefelin Ladies, UWIC Ladies

Northern Conference: Aberystwyth Town Ladies, Caernarfon Town Ladies, Llanidloes Ladies, Northop Hall Ladies, Wrexham Ladies.
