Trundle to Feature on BBC Sport Wales Tonight
Striker Turns Down League 1, Australia and America for Welsh Premier League
The opening weekend of the Principality Building Society Welsh Premier League kicks-off this weekend and the BBC will be promoting the new League with a special feature on Neath's new signing Lee Trundle on their Sport Wales programme this evening.
In an interview with Sport Wales reporter Lisa Rogers, the high-profile Eagle explained his decision behind the switch, which was a sensational coup for the Gnoll-based team and the League last month.
It seems that his family and the security of a three-year deal was the decisive factor for the once £1m player as he explained;
"I had offers from League One and from America and Australia but if I'd chosen them it would have meant moving away and I've got a daughter that lives in Liverpool and it would have meant not seeing her as much.
"There are other sides to it as well and I love Swansea as an area, and its where I've played and enjoyed my best football. It's a 3 year contract so I can settle down and get back enjoying my football."
Neath as a club have showed a lot of ambition plus I've never played in Europe so hopefully that can be achieved this year
European Ambition
"Neath as a club have showed a lot of ambition plus I've never played in Europe so hopefully that can be achieved this year."
"I'm 33 now and this contract will take me up to 37. Moving to a league one club wouldn't do me any more good in my career anyway, so I don't think this is taking a backwards step from league one. I've played well I've scored goals and won the league award in that division so I don't think I've anything to prove in that division."
"I just want to get back to enjoying football and playing with a smile on my face. When I went to Bristol at first it was great but it went down hill and I wasn't enjoying things. Football has given me a good life."
Sport Wales is on at 9:00pm this evening on BBC 2 Wales
