Opening Weekend Attendance up 26%
The average attendance for the opening weekend of the re-structured Principality Welsh Premier League increased by 26% on last season's average, which shows great promise for the season ahead.
Last year's average of 276 is dwarfed by this weekend's 347, with the highest attendance at Farrar Road to watch Bangor City triumph over Neath. A total of 2,081 walked through the six sets of turnstiles at Principality Welsh Premier League grounds over the three days of matches, which makes for good reading for the supporters and sponsors of the League.
The second highest total of 413 witnessed the live match at Richmond Park between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth, whilst 330 saw Champions TNS coast past Prestatyn Town. There were 326 at the GenQuip Stadium on Sunday watching the Port Talbot Town win over Bala Town and 322 saw Haverfordwest County lose to Craig Whitfield's solitary goal for Newtown.
The lowest attendance was at the Airfield on Sunday, as Llanelli won at Airbus UK Broughton, but the Wingmakers total of 183 is also up on their average of last season, which was 182!
The highest ever total was in 2003/04 when the League averaged 300 for the season. So, with 347 the current benchmark, the start that the new re-structured League has made, has eclipsed that figure.
