Cruel Blow to new Steelman Brooks

Port Talbot Town midfielder David Brooks will be out for up to six weeks with a broken metatarsalPort Talbot Town midfielder David Brooks will be out for up to six weeks with a broken metatarsal.

The summer signing at the GenQuip Stadium scored on his Principality Welsh Premier League debut for his new club on Sunday against Bala Town, but suffered the injury just after the hour mark and he was replaced by Drew Fahiya.

"I'm gutted for him, because he's made a great start for us;" said manager Mark Jones who signed the 21-year old from Cardiff-based outfit Bridgend Street in June.

He's gone through all the emotions possible on Sunday. He's made his debut, he's scored the opening goal and then he had to come off injured

"He's gone through all the emotions possible on Sunday. He's made his debut, he's scored the opening goal and then he had to come off injured.

"We thought that it was only a small knock on his foot and he hobbled away from the stadium on Sunday evening. But he had it checked up on Monday in hospital and he's broken his metatarsal, which is about six weeks out" confirmed Jones.

"It's a real blow for us because he's settled in really well and he offers me loads of versatility."

Brooks played under Mark Jones in the Welsh League at Dinas Powys but moved to South Wales Amateur League side Bridgend Street when Jones took re-joined Port Talbot Town.

He impressed for Bridgend Street - the club which Jones plucked Neath midfielder Paul Fowler from when at Carmarthen - and Jones offered him the chance in pre-season and he impressed enough, scoring in a friendly at Grange Albion and he signed for the club after the match.

He made his debut in the Europa League home leg against Turku and he then started the game against Bala on Sunday. Jones has strength in depth in his squad though and can choose from Drew Fahiya, Danny Thomas or new signing Nathan Cotterrall to come in to the team for Friday night's showdown at Llanelli.
