Cale Releases Trio at Newtown
Newtown Manager Andy Cale has released three players from his squad following Tuesday's training session at Latham Park.
The experienced boss has reluctantly agreed to release veteran defender Andrew Thomas as well as former Wales 'B' striker Paul Roberts and new recruit Matt Driscoll who joined the club over the summer under former manager Darren Ryan
Cale and Thomas agreed to the parting at last night's training session with the veteran stating that he needed regular first choice football at this stage of his career.
Cale was full of praise for the loyal Newtown defender and told the club's website;
Andrew wants to play every week and he knows there will be no guarantee of that at Newtown so reluctantly the club has agreed to his release
"Andrew wants to play every week and he knows there will be no guarantee of that at Newtown so reluctantly the club has agreed to his release.
"The club would like to place on record its gratitude for the years of service given by the player. He is a brilliant clubman and I would ideally have like to keep him involved, but that has not proved possible."
Cale also confirmed today that he has released Porthmadog based Paul Roberts and South Walian Matt Driscoll after leaving both out of Saturday's winning team.
"When I arrived we had over 20 players all expecting regular first team spots," he said."
It just doesn't stack up so the squad has had to be reduced."
