Thomas treble headlines Druids demolition

Manager Mark Jones made changes to his starting line-up as Daniel Thomas and Lee John replaced Karl Lewis and Drew Fahiya while new signing Duncan Roberts replaced unavailable goalkeeper Lee Kendall.

Defensive duo Matthew Rees and Lee Surman also returned following their one match suspension although Scott Barrow missed the match through an accumulation of bookings. Port Talbot were dominant from the start and Druids goalkeeper Chris Mullock was called into action to make a fine save from a Danny Thomas strike before tipping an effort from Martin Rose onto the post.

At the other end a rare opportunity for the visitors saw Roberts make a save with his legs on 24 minutes. The opening goal arrived on 36 minutes as Danny Thomas picked the ball up wide on the left before moving into the area and driving the ball past Mullock at the near post. Three minutes later the lead had doubled as Lee John found himself in space and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper.

Port Talbot kept pushing forward and on 42 minutes an effort from Gareth Phillips rebounded off the crossbar and into the path of Liam McCreesh who scored the third goal of the game from close range and added his second of the match just before half-time when he hooked the ball past Mullock from the edge of area in style. With a commanding lead at the break Port Talbot did not stop pushing forward and just 30 seconds in the re-start Thomas scored his second of the game with another break on the left.

The goal of the match handed Thomas his hat-trick on 56 minutes as Lee John and Lloyd Grist combined on the left to create Grist enough space to cross the ball into the area for Thomas to head the ball in the net for his third and his sides sixth. Port Talbot kept pushing forward with Martin Rose being denied by the post but the scoring was completed on 72 minutes when a header from Matthew Rees rebounded off the post for Lee John to score his second of the match and complete the comprehensive victory.
